Soul's Remnant went into Early Access on the thirteenth of August and then did the thing that almost nothing does any more, which is stay full. A month on there are still people standing round the Great Campfire at seven in the evening shouting at each other, and still guilds being founded by somebody who has not yet discovered what the guild box will and will not accept.
What this actually hands you
A character name built from 1,088 tagged parts and finished with one of 272 titles, running from of the Lantern Watch at the dignified end all the way down to Who Has Never Washed a Cape. Pick where you grind, which skill line you actually fed, your mode and your life skill, then drag the die towards whatever tone you are prepared to be seen under.
Or flip the whole thing to Guild, at which point the rules change completely, the box takes exactly one word, and every idea you had thirty seconds ago stops working. There are 40 curated names in here as well, for the mornings when pressing a button four hundred times is beyond you.
Two boxes, and they are emphatically not the same job
This game asks you to name two separate things and gives them two separate sets of rules, which is why the first control on this page is the one asking which of them you are doing. A guild name is not a person's name wearing a different hat. It cannot have a space in it at all.
That is why the subject dial outweighs every other control here by a margin I am not prepared to defend in public. Get it the wrong way round and the page cheerfully hands you Lumin Lanternwick for a guild, you paste it in, and the creation box laughs at you.
Chaomoon have published nothing at all about the character name field
Stated plainly, because guessing here is the one genuinely unforgivable thing a name generator can do. There is no published character limit, no allowed-character rule, no word list and no uniqueness statement for the character name field — not on the site, not in the support pages, not in the conduct policy.
So the character counter on this page is switched off, rather than counting down against a number somebody invented once and everybody else copied. What Chaomoon do publish is a cash shop that sells a character name change coupon, which is the plainest proof going that the name was yours to type in the first place.
The guild rule is real, and it is not the developers'
Guild names run three to sixteen characters, letters and numbers only, no spaces and no special characters. That rule is written down on the community wiki — which anybody with an account can edit — and Chaomoon themselves have published nothing whatsoever on the subject.
It is the best figure anyone has and I am using it, because sixteen off a community wiki beats a shrug. It is not a developer guarantee though, so if the creation box argues with it, believe the box and blame the people who wrote it down.
The fourteen places and the eight life skills came off that same wiki
The fourteen map families you can grind in and the eight things you can do with your hands come off the community wiki, which anybody can edit, and which asks you politely not to bother the developers about the gaps. Chaomoon's own copy names four life skills.
The other four, and every map family on that list, are the community's account of the game rather than the developers' — so if one of them has quietly been renamed since, blame the people who wrote it down and not the bloody dice.
I am using them anyway and I would do it again. Fourteen regions is the whole reason a Snowy Mountain surname sounds nothing like an Ocean one, and this game names its own world in compound English — Silverleaf, Lantern Bulb, Dew Bloom, Sea Grapes — which is a house style worth learning.
There are no classes here, so your build is a decision
Chaomoon's own Early Access copy is explicit about it: you mix Melee, Ranged, Magic and Faith through stat allocation and swappable loadouts, and nobody hands you a label on the way in. So the skill line on this page is not a class. It is whichever one you actually put the points into.
That turns out to be far better material than a class list ever was. A Faith build and a Ranged build are decisions somebody made and can defend at length, usually unprompted and usually in guild chat, and the first name bends towards whichever of them it was.
Ironman, and the badge the entire channel can read
The Deferri Crystal will take away your ability to trade, party or guild, and hand you a Hardcore badge that sits beside your name where everybody can see it. Die once and the badge goes, the restrictions do not, and you are a plain Ironman for the rest of your natural life.
If that is not a naming occasion then nothing is, so it gets its own dial — recorded as the community wiki records it, because Chaomoon publish no mode list either. I have stopped being surprised by this.
Nobody else on that search result has heard of the Lantern Bulb
Search for a Soul's Remnant name generator and you get syllable tables for unrelated games that happen to share one word, a tabletop world-builder's generic race list, and a small forest of scraped wiki clones that read as though nobody involved proofread anything. Not one of them knows what the Outskirts barrier is.
This page does. That is the entire pitch, and I, The Bloody Dice, am not going to dress it up any further than that.
