Two factions who do not share a single syllable

Elyos names go up. Light vowels, open endings, a general air of having been blessed by something and never once shutting up about it. Asmodian names go DOWN — harder consonants, shorter, closing on a sound like a door. That is not decoration, it is the actual convention Atreia runs on, and the bloody dice has learned both of them so you do not have to.

The failure state here is very specific and very common: an Asmodian who sounds like they should be handing out flowers in Sanctum. Every other generator does this constantly. It picks a fantasy syllable, sticks another one on, and calls Atreia done. Pick a faction on this page and the phonetics change underneath you immediately.

Nine classes sit on top — Gladiator, Templar, Assassin, Ranger, Sorcerer, Spiritmaster, Cleric, Chanter and Brawler — and choosing one bends the surname and opens up titles that are about you specifically rather than about the world generally.

Two hundred titles, and a worrying number are accusations

The tone die runs from Blade of the Abyss at one corner to Licensed Shugo Accountant at another, and I would like it noted that both of those are real and both come out of the same machine.

The middle is where it gets personal. The Chronically Overencumbered. Friend of All Shugos. The Fifth-Best Dancer in Sanctum — fifth, specifically, which is somehow worse than tenth. Slide toward the grubby corner and it turns on you properly: Kisk Thief. The Loot Goblin. Ninja of Other People's Drops. Go all the way and you get Destroyer of Entire Economies, Banned in Three Regions, and The Server's Worst Mistake, which I did not write about anyone in particular and will not be taking questions on.

Claiming it, and the bit nobody has published

Aion 2 uses a single name — the first name is what you actually claim in the character creator, and the surname here is yours for roleplay, legion rosters and profiles.

NCSOFT have not published the character limit for the name field, and Early Access has not opened. So no limit is quoted on this page and no character-count warning is shown, because the alternative is inventing a number and letting you fall in love with a name that will not fit. When the field is seen, this page gets the real figure.

The part where I get carried away about vowels

Here is the thing I actually find lovely, and I am aware this is not a normal way to feel about a naming convention.

Asmodian phonology does its work with endings. Elyos names trail off; Asmodian names stop. Two syllables and a closed consonant, and you can hear the whole cultural split in a word and a half — one people who live in the light and go on a bit, one people who live under it and have learned to be brief. A game that bothers to encode a schism into its vowel sounds deserves a generator that bothers back.

Anyway. Roll it a few times. The good one is usually two batches away.
