About NameCrit

NameCrit is a small, independent site run by a family in Worcestershire, England — one owner who keeps the whole thing honest, one lifelong gamer who cares far too much about whether a name fits the lore, and an AI that does the heavy lifting of studying each new game's naming conventions as it releases.

Why game-specific?

Generic fantasy name generators produce generic fantasy names. But an Asmodian in Aion 2 shouldn't sound like a hobbit, and on launch day of any online game the recognisable names are gone in an hour. So each of our generators is built from that game's own conventions — its factions, races and phonetics — and assembles original names in that style, which also makes them far more likely to actually be available on your server.

How it's made

For each game we study the official material and community lore, distil the naming conventions into structured rules, and build the generator from those rules — reviewed by a human who plays. We never copy character or NPC names; the point is names that belong in the world without already being in it. The full method — pipeline, hierarchy, review gauntlet and the changelog of how it evolves — lives on the How it's made page. Spot something lore-wrong? Tell us — corrections are welcome and credited.

The boring-but-important bits

Everything runs in your browser: no accounts, nothing you type is transmitted or stored by us. The site is free and will carry ads to pay for itself. NameCrit is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to any game publisher; all game titles belong to their respective owners.
